"Les Taillepieds" 1er Cru de Volnay 2018

The vintage 

The weather in 2018 has been quite tricky, with a cold, humid winter, followed by temperature rises reaching 30+ degrees starting April. 

This combination of these factors made the vines grow very quickly, we had to work hard to follow nature’s fast pace! 

The harvest started the 23rd of August, and lasted 3 weeks. The quality of the juice is surprising. We believe that our biodynamic practices helped the vines give their best despite the heat waves. As a result, our wines show an incredible balance between alcohol and freshness, and we did not produce any cuvée above 13,4 degrees! 

The quality of the reds allowed us to use an important percentage of whole clusters. Gentle vinification, smooth extraction. We are very pleased with the floral bouquet, with nice dark fruits. The tannins are very well integrated , with a delicate touch and texture.   

Tasting notes

Vinified entirely with whole clusters, de Montille's 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Les Taillepieds delivers a lovely bouquet of orange rind, dark berries, peonies, baking chocolate and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, this is a lively and serious wine, underpinned by a muscular chassis of rich, powdery tannin.
